On the occasion of the first day of Salone del Mobile in Milan, I was invited at B-line stand to attend the presentation of the new products launched on the market lately and explained by the designers who created them.

  • Karim Rashid and the presentation of his Hoop chair for B-line.

Here he comes and he doesn’t pass unnoticed because of his really original look as follows: varnished nails, pink glasses, a white shirt and a pair of rose trousers. His international renown and his 3000 products for top brands in the field of furniture and design come before him.
Among all his products known all over the world, there is Hoop chair that Karim designed for B-line: intense and definite lines but also slight and sensual at the same time. In contrast with so wrapping a seat, the legs are made in thin steel tubes or stiff beech.

The designer describes it as follows:

“ Sensual minimalism is my mantra and Hoop chair is a full personification of it.
Hoop, with its soft surface made in structural polyurethane laid on a wooden or metal base, is the expression of pure and essential design.
Its ergonomic form makes a hold integrated with the bodywork. Hoop’s simplicity offers a wrapping, comfortable and relaxing seat”.

Among the various thoughts Karim told us, I was struck by his vision about communication and the way he uses his social channels Instagram and Facebook to create new products. Karim explains that his creations derives also from the interaction with his followers, especially with those who he has got on the social networks. Precisely, he sketches a few ideas and puts them online, then he waits for his followers’ reply: a real interaction between designer and customer.

  •  Paolo and Francesco Favaretto and their Overpass and Helix creations for B-line.

Father and son, two generations in comparison with each other, united by the mutual purpose to make objects lasting in time.
Paolo Favaretto founded the Studio Favaretto&Partners in 1973 and got a number of prizes and awards. Thanks to the arrival of his son Francesco, two generations and different ideas merge together to create unique products such as Helix chair and Overpass armchair.
Think that in the past year alone, the Studio Favaretto&Partners won a good fifteen prizes.
Their products can be easily placed in any house. For instance, Overpass armchair is ideal for the living area, the entrance or the bedroom, thanks to its padding distinguishing it.

Helix chair is more minimal: made in solid wood with a corset-like back in elasticised string.
